Hello, my name is Ewan, former Business Administration apprentice and current End-Point Assessment Administrator at Skills and Education Group. In terms of my story, you could say I have been here, there, and everywhere.
I had a normal and happy childhood, but there is one thing that makes me out of the ordinary. When I was really young, long before I could truly understand it, I was diagnosed with a form of autism called Aspergers Syndrome. This included the fact that I am comfortable being alone, though I am good at interacting with people, I appreciate persistence and routine, and I am oriented on details, like turning off empty plug sockets.
In my teen years, I attended Fernwood Secondary School, and that is a place that will forever be with me. It was a nice school, teachers knew what they were doing, and subjects were varied. However, like with all secondary school years, there were complications, like students being disruptive, unnecessary loud noises, and academic problems. However, my teachers were truly patient and supportive with me; I could speak to my personal teaching assistant, they gave me ways I could improve, they did their best to understand me with my autism, and they helped me greatly to prepare for the big GCSE exams. In the end of it, I was a happy person, and I still visit them when I get the chance.
Furthermore, I did a week of work experience in Wollaton Library, where I helped with putting books back on their shelves, checking books out to people borrowing them, and even creating a display of train books for people to see.
Afterwards, I completed Level 2 and Level 3 courses in Business Administration at Nottingham College. During this time, I learned all sorts of skills, like how to interact with customers by telephone or face to face, how to write professional emails, various rules and regulations we have to follow, and even a few projects, like booking a flight for a business trip and working on a business idea. As a part of the course, I even got a part-time job at Primark which further improved my social and work skills.
For the final frontier, I undertook a Business Administration apprenticeship with Derby College, and I worked at Skills and Education Group in October 2021. This was great because I could learn on the job which was better than classroom based learning.. During this time, I became part of the End-Point Assessment department as an EPA Apprentice and completed various assignments, like booking knowledge tests, updating the wide range of spreadsheets for information, and answering the telephone when my colleagues were busy. Afterwards, I completed my own End-Point Assessment, managed to achieve an overall Pass grade, and I now have a permanent job role at SEG, and I have remained in this organisation ever since.
I may have and continue to experience a few trials and tribulations, like with anyone, but with what I had and have in my life, supportive guides, great work colleagues, and gaining a great skillset, I believe that in the end, I’m quite a happy person.
